When an earthquake greets, when a tsunami approaches people, when victims fall dead, when buildings are crushed to pieces to the ground, when women become widows and children become orphans without parents... at that time we should all be closer self to Allah, remember the hereafter, repent immediately, be passionate about worship, and not be deceived by the mortal world.

Here are some practices that should be done when an earthquake and tsunami occurs:

1. Repent to God

Indeed, this event will result in increasing the faith of a believer, strengthening his relationship with Allah. He is aware that these calamities are none other than the result of the sins of the human child in the form of shirk, heresy, and disobedience. There is no calamity except because of sin, and Allah will not revoke this calamity except by repentance.

Imam Ibnu Qoyyim al-Jauziyyah said, "Sometimes God allows the earth to breathe until it causes a terrible earthquake and tsunami, so that it causes fear of God, sadness, repentance and submission to God".

2. Lots of dhikr, prayer, and forgiveness to Allah

Imam Syafi'i said, "The most efficacious medicine to treat disasters is to multiply tasbih". Imam as-Suyuthi commented, "That is because dhikr can bring disaster and punishment, as Allah says:

And had it not been that he was of the glorifiers (143) he would have remained in its belly until the day they are resurrected (144)

So if he is not among those who remember Allah a lot, he will remain in the belly of the fish until the Day of Resurrection" (QS. ash-Shoffat [37]: 143-144).

Meditate with me on God's words:

And God would not chastise them while you are among them, and God would not chastise them while they seek forgiveness (33)

And Allah will never punish them while you are among them. And (also) Allah will not punish them, while they ask for forgiveness "(QS. Al-Anfal [8]: 33).

This noble verse shows that there are two things that can protect humans from punishment. First, the existence of the Prophet Muhammad in the midst of humans and this is temporary. Second, istighfar and

leave all sins and this is permanent even though the Prophet had died.

3. Helping disaster victims

Brother, if we are now in enjoyment and pleasure, we can eat, drink, and own a house, then remember your brothers and sisters who were affected by the disaster. Right now they are in trouble and trouble. So reach out your hand to help them as much as possible. Rasulullah  Shallallahu'alaihi Wasallam said:

Whoever relieves a believer of one of the hardships of this world, God will relieve him of one of the hardships of the Day of Resurrection.

Whoever helps relieve the distress of a believer in the world, Allah will remove the distress from him tomorrow on the Day of Resurrection " (HR. Muslim no. 2699).

What's more, rich people, businessmen, government and nobles, they should spend their wealth to help the victims. In the past, when an earthquake occurred during the time of Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz, he wrote letters to his governors to give alms and ordered people to give alms.

And the volunteers should help each other and complement each other so that what is their goal is realized, there should be no fight or feeling that he is the most deserving person compared to the others.

4. Uphold Amar Ma'ruf Nahi Munkar

As we mentioned earlier, including the factor in the occurrence of earthquakes is the sin of mankind, so this should be eliminated, one of the ways is by upholding da'wah, advising each other, and amar ma'ruf nahi munkar so that evil is reduced. Meanwhile, if we are indifferent and silence evil, it is no doubt that the disaster will come back to us.

The infidels of the Children of Israel have been cursed by the tongue of Dawud and Isa son of Maryam. That is because they are disobedient and always overstep the bounds. They each other always do not forbid the evil actions they do. Indeed, what they always do is very bad " (QS. al-Ma'idah [5]: 78-79).
